Its me again yes how did you guess

Returned last night from an overseas sojourn. Croatia was all very Croat, England was so English and Scotland was, yeah, like, totally Scottish. Thats my very poetic summary of my trip.

In more important news, I finally got that "10 types of people who understand binary" joke. I originally thought they were making fun of people who can only understand base 10 arithmetic. I didnt get the subtle twist that 10 is actually the number 2 written in binary until just the other week.

One day I also hope to understand what happened in Star Trek V.

Meanwhile I saw a doctor in Scotland who deftly diagnosed some hypochondria. It turns out I sometimes convince myself that my asthma is worse than it actually is by a breathing affectation involving my throat. While I am proud of any affectation I have and even somewhat proud of my hypochondria - hey its a very democratic disease, what i like about hypochondria is that anyone can be a hypochondriac, just use your imagination!

I wonder, though, now that I know I am a hypochondriac, does that disqualify me from hypchondria? Because doesnt hypochondria by definition involve some kind of denial?

I'm certain that you can still have hypochondria after such a setback... after all, there are always new symptoms to experience and who knows if they're real or not? A doctor perhaps?

I agree with Mary. My understanding of the condition is that it goes hand-in-hand with the conviction - the knowledge in fact - that doctors don't know shit. Self-diagnosis is the key. Certainly you can deny the diagnosis of hypochrondriac, most especially if a doctor told you so, and happily go about being one.

Interestingly enough, according to my beloved Wikipedia, the term "hyperchondria" has been "proposed to describe the false belief that one is healthy when actually afflicted with illness."

(I think i just did that one.) So if you ever actually get sick, which of course I hope you don't, you could switch to that one, and then switch back to hypochondria when you're "healthy" again but not really, as you yourself will know). Just to keep things rotating.

Hmmm, thanks for yoursupport in my affliction, Mary and Rose!! I think I will go to the GP and say "I think I am in hyperchondrial denial about my hypochondria - is there a pill or puffer that will help me?"

I think that's a very good idea.
